Intense Pulsed Light

Intense Pulse Light (IPL) therapy, aka photofacial, improves discoloration in the skin by targeting pigment and vascular lesions. The Intense Pulse Light (IPL) technology refreshes the skin by using controlled burst of light that directly target blood vessels or melanin within your skin, reducing the coloring of age spots freckles, redness and overall sun damage. It can undo some of the visible damage caused by sun exposure — called photoaging. After just one treatment, patients notice significant improvements in the complexion and clarity of the skin.

What steps must be taken before the procedure?

Before your IPL treatment at SeaMist, it’s essential to have a consultation with our specialists to assess your skin and medical history. Avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanners for at least two weeks prior to your treatment, and discontinue use of retinoids or exfoliating products 3-5 days before. Shave the treatment area, but avoid waxing or tweezing. Hydrate your skin, and avoid blood-thinning medications. Following these steps ensures optimal results and a safe experience. Our team is here to guide you through the process and answer any questions!

What should I expect during and after the procedure?

During the IPL treatment, you’ll experience a bright flash of light and a sensation similar to a light snap from an elastic band. Redness and mild warmth are normal and typically fade within an hour. In the next 24-48 hours, pigmented spots may darken and naturally exfoliate off in about 7-10 days, revealing a more even skin tone. Vascular lesions may blanch and disappear right away, with any color change in the vessel fading after a few days.
