Restylane® is an outpatient cosmetic treatment that was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2003. People with facial wrinkles located around the mouth and nose are good candidates for this procedure, as well as those with many other common signs of aging. Restylane® also helps to enhance the patient’s natural facial features rather than detract from them. It’s available as a stand-alone treatment or in combination with other cosmetic and anti-aging services. The effects of a single injection session of Restylane® can last for quite a while.
The Injection Procedure
The primary ingredient of Restylane® is hyaluronic acid, which is a natural sugar compound. It comes in the form of a clear liquid and is non-animal based. The procedure takes place in an outpatient setting in the comfort of our office. Restylane® is available to anyone who feels bothered by these common cosmetic concerns.
After checking to make sure the patient feels relaxed and comfortable, the injector proceeds to select one or more points of injection for each treated area. The provider decides on how much Restylane® to use and injects the solution utilizing specialized processes. The hyaluronic acid contained in the filler sticks to the skin while the water in the acid enables the surface of the skin to retain volume. The acid also serves as a magnet for the water to preserve the new skin volume.
The results of the procedure should be evident in approximately one week. Although it can reduce wrinkles by up to 80 percent, the effect is temporary. Patients may wish to come in for another treatment session in the months that follow. As with BOTOX®, results tend to last longer the more treatments a patient has.
