Wrinkled skin is a sign of aging, as supportive tissues are becoming weak. Also, thinning skin results in fine lines, crow’s feet, and frown folds. Smoothing the skin can be accomplished in various ways, but one of the most effective cosmetic treatments is BOTOX®. This injectable fluid causes relaxing of the facial muscles, allowing the skin to remain supple. It doesn’t actually paralyze the muscles entirely, but it does restrict their ability to contract. The result is an even skin surface when you smile or frown. BOTOX® works on all skin types and skin thicknesses. Our clients enjoy more youthful facial features without the need for surgery, filler treatments, or skin cauterizing procedures.
The Science Behind BOTOX®
When nerve endings just below the facial skin are subjected to the BOTOX® fluid, they cannot relay signals from the brain. Frowning and smiling is caused by muscular contractions that contort the skin. BOTOX® blocks the signal, so the result is relaxed facial muscles. Fine lines and wrinkles disappear.
Who is a Candidate for BOTOX®?
Any mature adult who is experiencing pronounced smile or frown lines might want to consider this type of cosmetic procedure. Wrinkles that form near the mouth and lips or adjacent to the eyes can be smoothed out through BOTOX® injections.
Some individuals have fine horizontal forehead lines caused by thinning skin and the effect of gravity. These can also be smoothed out with BOTOX® injections. BOTOX® does not actually work on the skin cells themselves. Therefore, skin resurfacing is unnecessary. Regardless of the skin tone and skin thickness, BOTOX® is an effective, long-lasting treatment for wrinkles and smile lines.
What the Procedure Involves
No special pre-treatment care is required. Clients may need to stay out of the sun for several days prior to treatment to allow the skin tone to become natural. This way, we can more effectively map out the proper injection sites. Also, abstaining from anti-inflammatory pain medications is advised, as this reduces the chance of swelling and bruising at the injection sites.
The BOTOX® is injected using a thin needle that penetrates just beneath the skin. The fluid moves around underneath the skin, relaxing the muscles. Some numbness is experienced, but this soon becomes unnoticeable. The full effect of the fluid may take about one or two days.
The procedure can take around ten minutes, and our clients are able to resume their normal activities almost immediately. The effect can last for months.
