Contrary to popular belief, acne is not age-specific. Teens and adults can suffer from eruptions, and they can last for years. Acne can be found anywhere on the body at any age, but it most commonly appears on the face, shoulders, neck, back, chest and arms.
Acne laser treatment works from beneath the surface of the skin to clean pores. Some laser treatments contain a vacuum device that extracts debris under and on the skin such as dirt, oil, and the excess sebum that is naturally excreted from pores.
Lasers excite compounds called porphyrins that live inside acne bacteria. When the porphyrins are excited, they damage the bacteria cell wall effectively killing it. When the acne bacteria are reduced or eliminated by the laser, the acne symptoms will also be reduced or eliminated.
Acne is caused when your body starts to produce excess sebum, which is oil that keeps your skin from drying out. The excess oil causes dead skin cells to stick together inside pores and not rise to the surface.
Once they are trapped inside, the bacteria that are naturally on the skin’s surface may begin to grow inside the pore causing eruptions called acne. In some cases, minor cases of acne can be made worse by fatigue, the use of some cosmetics and emotional stress.
First, the vacuum effectively removes the bacteria. When the surface bacteria are removed the laser immediately emits a pulse of light that kills the bacteria that is inside the pores. Your skin is clean, clear of pimples and infection.
Acne laser treatment is effective for all types of acne. Even if you have tried antibiotics and topical creams to no effect, laser may be the answer. Laser treats mild and moderate inflammatory acne as well as severe forms and blackheads and whiteheads.
We may recommend a few treatments although this may vary according to the type of acne.
Nothing can prevent acne, but you can reduce it by not:
• Wearing chinstraps or headbands
• Using oil based cosmetics and soaps
• Constantly poking and touching your face
• Letting your skin get sun damaged
Laser acne treatments are suitable for all skin types. You can return to work or school immediately after treatments.
No more antibiotics, messy creams or avoiding foods you like. You’ll never develop a resistance to laser treatment as you may with antibiotics. You’ll be able to keep your acne under control by having a treatment every few months.
Acne laser treatments allow you to feel confident about your appearance. Some people stop having acne in their twenties, but many people continue to have it into their forties. With laser treatments, you may get rid of it forever. Contact SeaMist MedSpa today to make an appointment.
